Sponsor a deserving and adorable horse at Long Shadows Farm
Untold numbers of horses in the US face frightening circumstances, abusive treatment, and uncertain futures, never a fault of their own. While rescues and sanctuaries come in many variations and varieties, few can offer loving care, the state-of-the-art facility, and large open spaces for grazing at Long Shadows Farm.
Caring for a horse is a lifelong commitment, one which, here at Long Shadows, we are happy to make. When you sponsor a Long Shadows horse at any level, you help us to save more lives while giving the level of care and love that every horse deserves.
Buddy is the oldest rescue horse in our herd but remains spry and constant flight risk from his beautiful paddock. He doesn't have many teeth but he does very well on soaked forage pellets. Sponsoring Buddy will be a joy- we promise!
Bob is a retired Albany Police horse, estimated to be in his 30s. After being retired from the Albany Police Department, he went to work as a trail horse at Camp Pinnacle, but it was determined that Bobby was too old to handle the terrain on the trails. He’s been with us for 5 years! He could not be happier.
Herbie was rescued recently from the slaughterhouse pipeline. When she arrived she was malnourished, afraid of people, and in pain from the cancer on her nose. As her nose is treated, she is beginning to show us her personality: surprisingly brave, annoyingly stubborn, and smarter than she originally let on.
Fun Fact: Herbie was sold to us as a “he”, but Tabitha discovered upon arrival that Herbie was actually a “she”! Rescued 2023
An OTTB who badly needed a new family during the winter of 2023. She will be 23 in 2025 and has become of the most peaceful and friendly horses in the Long Shadows herd. Mocha needs a sponsor and would love to have a friend to visit her!
Trooper was possibly a former State Trooper trained mount. He was an owner neglect case. When Long Shadows saved him, he was underweight and needed prompt farrier work due to years of improper hoof care. It was evident that he had been mistreated at some point in his life. Now Trooper is happy, healthy and (mostly) sound again.
Anna came to Long in need of a home. Her previous owner had tried to find her a home before us but was unsuccessful. She opted to have her euthanized to spare her uncertain future. The vet could not, in good conscience, euthanize this very healthy mare without trying to help her find a home first. She contacted Long Shadows and Anna has been living her best life ever since.
